Academic freedom from the perspective of Islamic educational thought 'Analytical vision'

Abstract

This study aimed at the Islamic rooting of the cause of academic freedom by extrapolating some evidence from the Qur’an and the Sunnah and the sayings and biographies of some Muslim scholars and followers of the righteous predecessors, The researcher used the descriptive approach in addition to the philosophical method to find out the controls and standards set by Islamic law to regulate the exercise of that freedom ,The study concluded that academic freedom is a right and a legal mandate approved by the Islamic religion, and even higher than that freedom to the level of an obligation.
 The study also highlighted the most important ethical and academic controls and standards in which academics exercise their freedom to research, think, teach and express opinion, and those controls consisted of not prejudice to sacred things and unseen, avoiding intellectual and collegial subordination, blind imitation, objectivity and impartiality, integrity, honesty and scientific integrity, The study also revealed a set of educational means that support and enhance the exercise of academic freedom from the perspective of Islamic educational thought, and it was represented in the release of freedom of expression and freedom of opinion, freedom of jurisprudence, as well as the opening of outlets for all knowledge, which confirms the Islamic principles of academic freedom.
