Abstract

The current study aimed at building an enriching program for teaching plants diseases based on integration approach of science, technology and society using biotechnological innovations. In addition, this study aimed to measure effectiveness of the proposed program in developing biotechnological enlightenment and attitude towards fighting plants diseases for the students of the third agricultural secondary year. For the main purpose of performing this objective, the enriching program for teaching plants diseases was prepared in the form of the student’s booklet and the teacher’s guide. Tools for measurements include: test of biotechnological enlightenment and scale of attitude for fighting plants diseases. Methodology of the current study is based on adopting the descriptive analytical approach and the quasi-experimental approach of two groups. The topics of the enriching program were taught using (STS) approach for the experimental group consisting of 30 students. Concerning the controlling group which also consisted of 30 students, the ministerial course was taught for this group using the traditional teaching method. Tools for measurements were applied in a pre-teaching and post-teaching phases. Finally, Findings of the study indicated that the enriching program contributed, successfully with great extent, in developing biotechnological enlightenment as well as in developing attitude and inclination for fighting plants diseases as the study found out that there are significant statistical differences at the level of (0.01) between averages of the experimental group students and averages of the controlling group students in the post-application for measurement tools in this study for the sake of the experimental group.
