The Role of the History Curriculum in Enhancing the Dimensions of National Identity among in Secondary Education students (by Courses) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the role of the history curriculum in enhancing the dimensions of national identity in secondary education students (by courses in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. To achieve this, the researcher used the descriptive approach, where he prepared a list of the dimensions of national identity Under each dimension, there are five indicators , and the researcher also built a form for analyzing the content and a questionnaire to measure the students' view of the role of the curriculum in enhancing those dimensions. After analyzing the content of the history curriculum in secondary education, and applying the questionnaire at the end of the second semester on a sample of students who studied this course, which numbered (180) students in Yanbu governorate, the study found that the level of curriculum content handling of the historical and geographical dimensions was high, with a rate of (100%). It is average for the religious, economic, political and Arabic dimensions, with a percentage of (60%), and weak for the social, cultural and environmental dimensions, with a percentage of (40%). As for the dimensions in general, they recorded an average level with a percentage of (62%). The study also showed that the history curriculum has a major role in enhancing the dimensions of the national identity of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from the point of view of secondary school students who studied this course, as their average overall responses to the dimensions as a whole were (2.44) and a percentage (81.3%).
