Abstract

This research paper aims primarily to define workplace bullying; its forms and causes, the reaction of the victim and how bullying could be measured. The forms of workplace bullying in preschools could be a threat to professional status, destabilization or isolation physically and socially. The causes of workplace bullying in preschools can be perpetrator characteristics, victim characteristics, leadership style and work environment. The research paper also discusses some questionnaires connected with measuring workplace bullying such as the Reduced Form of the Workplace Bullying Scale and the Malaysian Workplace Bullying Index. In this context, cyber-bullying is discussed, and some questionnaires are used as well. The recommendations at the end refer to the practical measures that could be taken in preschools in order to have what is called a zero tolerance of workplace bullying: restorative interventions, a proactive stance, enhanced training, reporting, confidentiality, impartiality, ombudsmen and respectful communication protocols, among other things.
