Optimism and its relationship to self- actualization for university students

Abstract

The current research aims to know the nature of the relationship between optimism and self-actualization, and to reveal the differences between the response of the research sample about optimism and self-actualization according to the gender variable. The research sample consisted of (296) male and female students divided into (146) male and (150) female students. And the optimism scale was applied to them, prepared by (Muhammad Ibrahim Eid, Heba Sami Mahmoud, Sahar Abdel Azim, 2015), and the self-actualization scale prepared by (Muhammad Saad Othman, Violet Ibrahim, 2015). The descriptive approach was used due to its suitability to the nature and objectives of the research. The results of the research indicated that there is a statistically significant correlation between the variable of optimism and the variable of self-actualization, and there are no statistically significant differences between the average scores of the research sample of males and females in the variables of optimism and self-actualization.
