The Effectiveness of Using Digital Story telling in Teaching Social Studies to Develop Digital Citizenship for Second-Year Preparatory School Students

Abstract

The aim of this research is develop digital citizenship for second-year preparatory school students by using Digital Story telling story in teaching social studies (history). The researcher used the quasi-experimental method with a quasi-experimental design, where the research group consisted of 60 students from Al-Haditha Preparatory School for Girls in Minia Educational Administration, and they were divided into two groups: control and experimental. The control group consisted of 30 female students who studied social studies (history) which is assigned to second-year preparatory school students in the second semester according to the teacher’s conventional method, while the experimental group consisted of 30 female students who studied the same scientific content formulated according to Digital Story telling story.

The research instruments consisted of Digital Story telling stories, a YouTube channel where the stories were uploaded, stages of using thef Digital Story telling strategy, a teacher's guide and student worksheets, a digital citizenship scale. The research experiment was applied to a piloting group before conducting the main research experiment, and the research test and scale were applied before teaching both groups, and then applied after the completion of teaching. The results of the research indicated that there were statistically significant differences between the mean scores obtained by female students of the experimental and control groups in the post- the digital citizenship scale in favor of the experimental group. This indicates the effectiveness of using the electronic story in teaching social studies to develop digital citizenship for second-year preparatory school students.
