The competencies of employing artificial intelligence in teaching necessary for social studies teachers in the basic education stage and the level of their needs for them.

Abstract

The aim of the research was to determine the competencies of employing artificial intelligence in teaching necessary for social studies teachers in the basic education stage and the level of their needs for them.Two research tools were used.First, a questionnaire for the competencies of employing artificial intelligence in teaching necessary for social studies teachers through surveying the opinions of faculty staff specializing in curricula and methods of teaching social studies at faculties of education in the Egyptian universities(n=35) about these competencies.Second, a questionnaire to determine the level of needs of social studies teachers(n=72)for those competencies.The research followed the descriptive approach.The two research tools were applied in the first semester 2023-2024.Besides, the research results determined the competencies needed for employing artificial intelligence in teaching necessary for social studies teachers in the basic education stage in four main competencies, which are:general knowledge of employing artificial intelligence in teaching social studies, designing and planning teaching using artificial intelligence in social studies, managing the teaching and learning environment using artificial intelligence in social studies, and evaluating teaching using artificial intelligence in social studies. As, their importance was to a great degree in all competencies.The results of the research also revealed that the level of teachers’ needs for those competencies was to a great degree. In light of these results, the research suggested preparing awareness and training programs to develop the competencies of employing artificial intelligence in teaching for social studies teachers in the basic education stage.Finally, suggestions for further related research were proposed.
