Coping strategies with psychological stress for workers at a mental health hospital in Kuwait

Abstract

The aim of the current research is to identify the strategies for coping with the psychological stress most frequently used by psychologists working in Mental Health Hospital in the State of Kuwait. Identification of differences in coping strategies (resolution of the problem, cognitive reconstruction, disclosure of emotions, social support, avoidance of the problem, fantasy, self-criticism, and social withdrawal) among psychologists. Also, the identification of differences in coping strategies attributable to the variable number of years of experience. An intentional sample has been selected from all specialists and psychologists working in the psychiatric hospital (37 individuals). The Arabic version of the Coping Strategies Inventory (CSI) was used. Data were processed using descriptive and indicative statistics through the SPSS (Social Science Statistical Package). The findings of the research concluded that there were statistically significant differences in the use of coping strategies. The strategies most used in the research sample were (knowledge reconstruction, problem resolution, social support). The research also found that there were no statistically significant differences between males and females in the use of all coping strategies. In addition, there are statistically significant differences in the social support strategy and fantasy thinking due to the number of years of experience.
