Abstract

The current study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of using critical and creative thinking strategies in enhancing reading comprehension among female students majoring in English at the university level. The study employed a descriptive-analytical approach suitable for its nature. It utilized the experimental method with a single-group pretest-posttest design to examine the impact of the independent variable (critical and creative thinking strategy) on the dependent variable (reading comprehension) among English major students. The study was conducted on a sample of 80 female students enrolled in the English Department at Qassim University. Statistical descriptive analyses were used to analyze pretest and posttest scores of reading comprehension. Additionally, a t-test was employed to compare means before and after applying the critical and creative thinking strategy. Pearson and Spearman correlations, as well as regression analysis, were also utilized. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in reading comprehension levels after implementing the critical and creative thinking strategy. Furthermore, there was a statistically significant difference between pretest and posttest scores, indicating the effectiveness of the strategy in enhancing reading skills among the students. The study recommends encouraging students to engage in critical thinking-based research and creative projects, such as writing critical essays or producing multimedia creative works.
