Abstract

The current research aimed to determine the level of digital culture and effective communication skills among Pre-service early childhood teachers, in addition to investigating the most common areas of cognitive biases among the sample. The research also sought to reveal the nature of the relationships between these variables, and to analyze the extent to which cognitive biases and digital culture contribute to predict effective communication skills. The study was conducted on a sample of 594 student teachers in the third and fourth grades of the College of Early Childhood Education at Minia University during the first semester of the academic year 2023/2024.

The results indicated that the sample had a high level of digital culture and effective communication skills. It was also found that It also showed that cognitive biases were highly prevalent among them. The results showed a statistically significant positive correlation between the three variables, except the relation between cognitive bias and active listening as it wasn't significant. In terms of prediction, it was possible to infer the ability of some areas of cognitive biases (jumping to conclusions, attention to threats, social cognitive problems), and two components of digital culture (digital knowledge and digital attitudes) to predict effective communication skills, while no statistical significance was found for the effect of the interaction between them.
