Abstract

Green schools are not only concerned with providing an environmentally friendly learning environment, but also with building a sustainable institutional culture and addressing environmental and sustainability issues.

The current research focuses on studying the experiences of some Southeast Asian countries (Indonesia and Singapore) with green schools and the possibility of using them to propose measures for the Arab Republic of Egypt to adopt the green school model.

The research is based on the preliminary hypothesis that: "Adopting the green school model in the selected foreign experiences has helped in preserving the environment in those countries." This research aimed to examine the theoretical foundations of green schools in the contemporary world and to assess the current state of selected green schools in light of the cultural forces and factors influencing them. It also aimed to propose a set of measures for the Arab Republic of Egypt to adopt the green school model.

To achieve its objectives, the research employed George Bereday's grand solutions approach. The research concluded by presenting several proposed measures for the Arab Republic of Egypt to adopt the green school model.
