The Effect of a Proposed Training Program in Developing Emotional Expression Skills for Children with Autism in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

Abstract

The study aimed to study the effectiveness of a behavioral counseling program in developing expression of feelings skills among autistic children in Jeddah. The researcher used a mixed approach of its two types (the quantitative and qualitative approaches) on a sample consisting of (5) children with autism disorder, between the ages of 5 and 8 years. To achieve the objective of the study, the researcher developed Checklist of the expression of feelings skills, in addition to building the behavioral counseling program for the development of expression of feelings skills among children with autism disorder.The study found several results, most notably; the application of behavioral counseling program to develop the skills of expression of feelings among autistic children have a significant impact on the increase and improve the level of skills of expression of feelings among autistic children, the study also found that there were statistically significant differences in the pre - and post - measurement of the skill of expression of feelings in favor of the post - measurement among the sample on the Checklist of the expression of feelings skills.
