The effectiveness of a proposed program for teaching Science based on content standards in
developing scientific concepts in Middle school students


Abstract:

The present study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of a proposed program for teaching Science based on content standards in developing scientific concepts in Middle school students using units entitled “periodical movement and powers” To achieve the study's objectives, a proposed content standards metacognitive-based program and scientific concepts test were developed. Qusai-experiemental method with control and treatment group was adopted. The sample was selected from second year middle school students enrolled in Minia Educational Administration in Minia Governorate. Results revealed the effectiveness of he suggested program in developing scientific concepts in Middle school students, accordingly the researcher recommended using the proposed program for teaching Science based on content standards because of its effectiveness in developing scientific concepts, training pre and inservice teachers on how to integrate metacognitive strategies to instruction.
