A Proposed Science Unit Based on Sustainable Development Concepts for Developing These Concepts for preparatory School Students

Abstract

The current research aims to determine the effect of teaching a proposed science unit based on sustainable development concepts on developing these concepts for middle school students. To achieve this goal, the research tools were constructed, which included the teaching and learning materials represented in the proposed unit that consisted of the student's book and the teacher's guide for teaching the unit, and the measurement tool, which was represented in the sustainable development concepts test. The research sample consisted of (27) female students from the second preparatory grade at Samalout Preparatory School for Girls affiliated with the Samalout Educational Directorate in Minya Governorate, during the first semester of the academic year 2023/2024. This was after obtaining the official approvals from the College of Education Administration, Minya University, to implement the research experiment at the school, then the approval of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education in Minya. The results showed that there was an effect of teaching the proposed unit on developing sustainable development concepts. The research recommended including the concepts, goals, and requirements of sustainable development in science curricula at different educational stages, and qualifying science teachers and developing them professionally to help them teach developed science curricula in light of reform movements.
