Abstract

The aim of this current research is to clarify the role of future foresight in enhancing the decision-making process among Minia University leaders. To achieve this goal, the research used the descriptive approach, and its instrument was a questionnaire consisting of (31) statements representing the current utilization status of Minia University's leaders in future foresight skills (future anticipation, future vision, future planning, future problem-solving, and future decision-making). The research sample was faculty members and leaders, consisting of (324) faculty members and (99) leaders. The research has concluded a number of results including the following: in general, the utilization of these skills by Minia University leaders was found to be below average and were arranged in an ascending order of required development as follows: (future decision-making, problem-solving, future vision, future planning, future anticipation). Additionally, there were no statistically significant differences between the responses of theoretical and practical colleges or between job positions (lecturer, associate professor, professor). There were also no statistically significant differences between faculty members and leaders in future anticipation and future; however, differences were found in the other three skills, favoring leaders. The research recommends: the Ministry of Higher Education should develop criteria for selecting university leaders, activate laws related to university independence, encourage decentralization in university administration, and emphasize the necessity for university leaders to apply future foresight skills to support university decision-making. It also suggests providing training programs and workshops that include these skills and developing their abilities in problem management and solving, strategic and anticipatory thinking,
