Abstract

The aim of the current research is to detect the differential item function in the test anxiety inventory by Al-Zahar and Hosfar (1985) according to gender (male/female). To investigate the research hypothesis, a random sample was taken consisting of 770 students from the Faculty of Education, Minya University in the academic year 2022/2023 (245 male and 525 female students). A test anxiety inventory consisting of 20 items was applied. Using the Rasch-Mantel-Haenszel method, the results of the research revealed the presence of three items with differential function: item number 7, which has an Average differential function for males, item 13, which has a strong differential function for females, and item 18,which has an Average differential function for females.
